The more heavily marketed gadgets — sleep trackers, continuous glucose monitors, and weighted vests — all sit at grade C for their headline claims, so no device here is a slam-dunk.

Are sleep trackers like Oura or Whoop worth buying to improve your sleep?

We grade sleep trackers grade C overall, with an important split. They are genuinely good (grade B: 86-91% agreement with clinical polysomnography) at detecting whether you're asleep, but only about 76% accurate at staging light, deep, and REM sleep — Oura Ring led that head-to-head test and still misclassified roughly one epoch in four. No randomized trial has shown that simply wearing one improves your sleep; it's a measurement tool, not an intervention, and fixating on the score can trigger 'orthosomnia,' a documented tracker-driven sleep anxiety.
